Art statement
In this body of work, I explored the dichotomy between space and place and aimed to transform my abstract spaces into abstract places within these paintings. By feeding the canvas with layers and layers of failed paint, I've created the foundation texture of the visible surface. My work process involves moving between a raw, semi-conscious mode that is driven by expressive emotional sparks, and a more deliberate and considerate conscious mode that makes final semi-rational decisions. This push and pull between the subconscious and conscious are analogous to the private personas that we hide and the public personas we adopt in daily life. Ultimately, I've aimed to capture the authenticity of the self-shame that humankind carries.
